PHP development was started in 1994, Basically Rasmus Lerdorf start to writing a series of Common Gateway Ineterface (CGI) Perl script for his convenience. The purpose of this CGI is to maintain his personal homepage, this tools perform some simple tasks such as displaying his resume, recording web traffice etc. latter on he wrote these script in C Language to increase the performance. In result it can work with web forms and also can communicate with database and he named this implementation “Personal Home Page/Forms Interpreter” or PHP/FI.

Lerdorf released the very first version of PHP as “Personal Home Page tools version 1.0”. this version is used to build a simple and dynamic web applications.
